Breaking Bad’s Creator is Bringing a New Series to HBO

Breaking Bad’s creator Vince Gilligan is preparing for a new TV show. In cooperation with HBO, Gilligan will produce the show named Raven which will tell the story of Jim Jones, a cult leader, and the 1978 mass suicide at the Peoples Temple, or “Jonestown,” in Guyana.

Gilligan will team up with Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones director Michelle MacLaren while he will write the script for the pilot himself. Octavia Spencer, the actress who secured the rights to the source material for Raven – Tim Reiterman’s novel Raven: The Untold Story of Jim Jones and His People – will act as the executive producer.

Reiterman was one of the journalists that accompanied Congressman LEo Ryan to examine the situation in Jonestown. Ryan and three journalist were killed after they visited the Peoples Temple while Reiterman was injured by being shot in the ambush.

A little while after Jones told his more than 900 followers to kill themselves by cyanide which ended up with the largest loss of American lives until 9/11 terrorist attack.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, A&E and Jake Gyllenhaal are currently working on an anthology TV series which will focus on cult leaders and Jim Jones will be the subject of Season One.
