Nicholas Hoult to Play Tesla in The Current War

Two upcoming moviews will be focusing on the rivalry between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, two inventors who brought electricity into our lives. Black Bear Pictures is producing The Last Days of Night, a movie focusing on the patent battle between the inventors while The Weinstein Company’s movie The Current War will focus on the personalities of these two important names. The one name that cannot be left out of these movies is Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison’s protege (and competitor, later).

Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon  will be playing Edison and Westinghouse in The Current War and apparently another casting choice has been made. Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days Of Future Past  and Apocalypse) was cast to play Nikola Tesla.

The Current War’s script is written by Michael Mitnick. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon from  Me and Earl and the Dying Girl  will be directing the movie. The movie will be focusing on the battle for the control of electricity supply market between Edison and Westinghouse in 1880s. Tesla, who first, started working for Edison, moved up pretty quickly in the company and left is when he thought Edison deceived him. After that, he was hired by Westinghouse in 1888.
